The Harrogate district is an enticing collection of communities and countryside, history and heritage, businesses and brands; a sparkling gem in the heart of Yorkshire, a district of distinctiveness alive with opportunity. Whilst Harrogate Town itself is the principal settlement, Ripon, Knaresborough, Pateley Bridge, Boroughbridge and Masham are successes in their own right with each playing its own role in the economic and social tapestry that makes up this special part of Yorkshire.

So when we talk about Harrogate, we mean the district in its widest geographical sense; in its full splendour.

THE HARROGATE STORY

In late 2019 we asked all sorts of people from all across our district to tell us what they love about living, working and playing here. We spoke to residents, businesses, organisations and individuals in a series of focus groups, open workshops, 1:2:1 interviews and through an online survey. We looked at how Harrogate is perceived by people outside the district. And then we brought these findings together in one authentic, compelling story. This story captures the essence of what makes this place so special, shows how we can build upon our strengths, our history and our heritage; and identifies potential new directions for our future.
